Washing your brushes

How often should I clean my brushes?

Spot-clean daily brushes (foundation, concealer) once a week, and eye brushes every 1–2 weeks. If you use a brush on active breakouts or with cream/liquid products, clean it more frequently to avoid buildup.

What's the best way to clean my brushes?

Wet bristles with lukewarm water, keeping the bristles pointed down and taking care not to soak the ferrule (the metal part).

Swirl onto our brush soap, then gently work into a lather against your palm or the cleansing mat inside the lid. Rinse until the water runs clear, then gently squeeze out any excess water from the bristles.

Should I use hot water?

No - hot water can loosen the glue holding bristles in place over time. Lukewarm water is gentle enough to clean thoroughly without damaging the brush.

Can I use regular soap or shampoo instead of brush soap?

You can use a regular soap, as long as it's gentle enough that you'd be comfortable using it on your skin. That said, our brush soap is formulated specifically to break down makeup and oil without stripping or drying out bristles, so it protects both the brush and your skin over time.

What happens if I don't clean my brushes regularly?

Buildup of product, oil, and bacteria can clog bristles, cause patchy application, and contribute to breakouts or irritation - especially with brushes used near the eyes or on blemish-prone skin.

If bristles become too densely clogged and stiff, the brush can also stop applying makeup effectively altogether.

Drying your brushes

How should I dry my brushes?

Reshape the bristles, then slot them into the elasticated loops on our brush towel and hang it up using the built-in hooks - bristles facing down, so any water runs away from the ferrule rather than into it.

If you're using a standard towel instead, lay brushes flat with the bristles hanging slightly off the edge of the counter to help with airflow. Never dry brushes standing upright.

How long does it take for brushes to fully dry?

Most brushes take 6–12 hours to dry fully, depending on bristle density. Natural-hair brushes may take a little longer than synthetic. Hanging them on our brush towel in a warmer space can help speed up drying while keeping their shape.
