How To Seamlessly Cover Blemishes With Makeup

How To Seamlessly Cover Blemishes With Makeup

Blemishes, spots and makeup are an unfortunate fact of life for everybody. And we really do mean everybody, even those models you see in magazines, those influencers you see on TikTok and those actors you see on TV. No matter how amazing they look, somewhere at sometime there’s been a blemish they’ve had to cover up.

Here we look at the best makeup for covering blemishes easily, so you can always look your best.

How To Cover Spots With Makeup

If it’s spots your dealing with, follow these simple steps:

  1. The first thing when dealing with spots is to have a good skincare routine. Keep your face hydrated and smooth so when a spot does emerge, you’re working with a great canvas.

  2. Before you do anything, make sure you’ve put primer on your skin. Primer will help your makeup sit on your face and creates a barrier between the two which helps to smooth everything out.

  3. Add foundation with a, you guessed it, foundation brush. This will help to further cover the spots and lay down a base for the rest of your look.

  4. Nest apply concealer. Use a concealer brush to cover any areas of redness or discolouration and apply directly to spots. Blend to work it in and get a consistent smooth colour across the face.

  5. Use a powder brush to apply a setting powder to the face to hold everything in place

Makeup For Acne Prone Skin

Whilst many of our spot cover tips hold the same for acne prone skin, there are a couple of additional things to think about.

If you’re prone to acne breakouts you’ll want to pay particular attention to colour correcting as acne can discolour larger areas of the skin. Using an orange or pink hued colour corrector can help to conceal acne and bring some colour to the face.

Remember as well to be gentle with your skin. Using aggressive buffing techniques can aggravate blemishes. Instead of buffing it’s a good idea to stipple gently using a soft brush. Brushes are a good idea as they can be easily cleaned helping to prevent infection of the skin if it’s broken.

Do I Need Full Coverage Foundation

When we say “full coverage foundation” we’re talking about heavier foundations that more easily conceal blemishes and discoloration of the skin. If you haver got a blemish or are just more prone to them, it can be worthwhile learning how to apply full coverage foundation and you need to bear in mind that these can be tricker to apply.

This type of foundation are mor visible on the skin so any colour mismatches are highly visible. It’s therefore really important to get the right colour match.

How To Reduce Forehead Shine

Forehead shine is caused when the skin on the forehead produces too much Sebum, the skin’s natural oil, the oil sits on the skin and makes it look shiny. Other areas of the face are prone to this as well such as the nose and chin.

Now before you get too down on Sebum, remember, this is a natural oil that helps to protect and hydrate the skin. But if you do want to remove excess oil from the face there’re a few ways to do it.

Oil absorbing masks are a good idea and clay masks are particularly recommended as this simultaneously detoxifies and hydrates the skin.

It’s important not to overwash the skin. Whilst it can be tempting to keep nipping off and washing to remove oil, too much washing can strip away so much oil that the skin bemes dry and cracked. It can even be a good idea to use a light moisturiser to keep the skin nice and hydrated.

It’s a good idea to use a translucent setting powder (we’ve already mentioned setting powders above when talking about covering spots). As well as keeping your makeup in place, these powders are also great at absorbing excess oil and mattifying the face to reduce shine.

There are lots of ways you can use makeup to keep your skin look smooth and blemish free but remember, the most important thing is that you feel great and happy in your skin!
