How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Let's face it, we all dread cleaning our makeup brushes and cleansing them daily can be a challenge, but we do advise making this a part of your weekly cleaning schedule as it's so important to avoid build up of product which can cause nasty bacteria! Start the week right and make brush cleaning a part of your Sunday ritual with 5 simple steps... 💕

How?

Step 1: Wet

Wet the bristles with lukewarm water, ensuring you do not submerge the whole brush in water. (This can damage the adhesive, which may cause the brush head to detach from the handle. Over exposure to water can also cause the wood to swell and crack!)

Only run the tap when you need it, Or reuse the water so it doesn't go to waste. Save our water! 💦

Step 2: Cleanse

Gently swirl the bristles into the our Vegan Solid Soap until the bristles are fully covered.

Step 3: Deep Clean

To further cleanse the bristles, work the brush into the textured surface of the silicone mat to create a lather to ensure all product has gone!

Step 4: Rinse

Rinse away all soap and squeeze out any excess. Make sure you repeat this a couple of times to ensure no soap is left!

If your brushes dry stiff and is left with a sticky residue, this means the soap wasn’t rinsed off properly or there may still be product lurking in the bristles.

Repeat the same process, if there is any residue product left over!

Step 5: Reshape and Dry

Using a towel, gently squeeze any excess water out and reshape the bristles accordingly to ensure they regain their original shape.

Lay your brushes down flat and ensure you don't dry all your brushes too close together to avoid any moisture soaking into the handles, this may cause the glue to deteriorate and again you don't want it to swell the wood!

Leave your brushes for up to 12hrs to fully dry.

Don't forget about your Makeup Blender Sponge

Wet your sponge using lukewarm water.

Work the sponge into your Vegan Solid Soap and gently massage using your fingers, to squeeze out build up product, repeat until necessary.

Rinse until the water runs clear!

Using a clean towel, squeeze out any excess water and leave to dry.

Why you should clean your brushes!

It’s so important to avoid build up of excess products, oils and dirt as this can clog your pores, cause breakouts and even infections.

When you leave your brushes uncleaned, they eventually begin to grow nasty bacteria, (Ew!) not only can this be harmful to your skin, this can also contaminate your beloved makeup as you continue to use them on your skin! It's the perfect breeding ground for bacteria to multiply and breakdown your makeup products.

Dirty brushes and build up of product can even affect makeup application. It will prove picking up product more difficult and blending not as smooth.

Ever had a stiff foundation brush? This is when you know it's time to wash them! Old liquid foundation over time will congeal and cause the bristles to stick together.

Build up of eyeshadow can cause your eyeshadow to look muddy and can also alter the colour and texture of your eye makeup.

The longer you leave your dirty brushes, the harder it will be to clean them of all the build up!

Looking after your brushes makes them last longer and ensure they stay maintain their quality.

This is what not to do! Don't leave your brushes submerged! :(

We hope this step by step guide on how to clean your makeup brushes with our Vegan Solid Soap helped.

And now your brushes are sparkling clean, you’re ready to apply some new makeup. Check out our range and don’t forget to keep up your Sunday deep cleans!

Happy brush cleaning! 💗
