Top Makeup Trends This Fall

As we head into fall with one eye on Christmas and winter, we wanted to have a look at the makeup trends that are hot right now and what’s coming round the corner.

Still All About the Latte

So far this year the latte trend has been huge, with everyone adopting bronze and nude shades. The big appeal of this look is that as well as making you look amazing with a healthy glow, it’s also really easy to do with the only bit of work involved, working out what shade will look good for your skin tone.

Simply use a light foundation or primer to create a base, then apply bronzer over the top. That’s pretty much it. If you want to develop the look further, stick with neutral shades for the eye. If you want to make the look stand out a bit more, you can try combining and blending a few brown or neutral shades of eyeshadow around the eyes.

As we hit winter, some makeup artists are still running with the latte look but are taking it in a darker direction with reds and oranges being added to the palette alongside more neutral colors. Some people are calling this the pumpkin spice latte trend, with flashes of warmer color being added to the nude and neutral tones that have been the backbone of the latte look so far (and from where the trend gets its name).

Others still are taking it in a colder, icy direction with whiter shades.

Grab Attention With Colorful Mascara

Recently we’ve noticed that models in particular, have been drawing attention to their eyes with brightly coloured mascara. Embracing bright mascara is a great way to add an exciting pop of color to your look. Pinks, bright blues and greens have all been seen on the catwalk but don’t be afraid to experiment and go wild with your look.

Metallic Finishes

This is a look we’ve noticed more recently at some of the fall runways, with designers opting for a light dusting of glitter around the eyes and across the cheek bones. Lots of these color palettes have relied on colder silver and blue tones but coming into winter and especially around Christmas you could add a bit of seasonal warmth with bronze or copper touches.

The trick here is a solid foundation and a light hand (you don’t want to look like the Tin Man). Gently use a contour brush to get the right texture. Pair this with a glittery lipstick.

Minimal

More minimal looks have been around for a while, but the trend isn’t going anywhere. Why? Well, it looks great and trades a lot on your natural beauty, and what’s not to love about that? Light pinches of color, gentle skin tints and makeup that highlights rather than conceals is what this trend is all about.

Some makeup artists are choosing to hang on to a bit of summer by taking a basic, minimal look and adding a sprinkle of bronze or orange, to give those fall palettes a kiss of sunshine.

Two Tone Lips

This is another look that’s emerging in the fashion world at the moment and will probably take the world by storm, because it’s so creative and such good fun to play around with. Use two different tones of liquid lipstick. Make sure it’s smudge proof to stop the colors blending together, then put a clear lip gloss over it to give it all some shine. Some artists are blending light and dark red and black tones to create a vampire esq look whilst others are going back to the 90s with more extreme, rave palette inspired looks.

Feel Great & Have Fun

Whatever trend you’re embracing this fall (or even if you’re ignoring the trends and doing your own thing completely), remember it’s always about what makes you look good and feel great, and having fun!
