4 Makeup Looks to Enhance your Everyday Beauty Routine

There are so many different looks you can create with makeup, but where do you start? It all begins with how you want to look and what you want to achieve.

Is it all about creating a glow up on your work calls or do you want something subtle and classic? Don’t worry, we’re here to help. From how to create a subtle makeup look to how to look better on a Zoom call with makeup, we’ve got you covered! Read on to discover all the best tips and tricks.

  1. How to Create a Subtle Makeup Look

Not a fan of a full face of makeup but you want to enhance your natural beauty? Here are our tips on how to do a subtle makeup look.

  • It starts with good skincare. Making sure you have hydrated, well moisturised skin is key for a glowing, low key minimal look. Use a hydrating moisturiser and an illuminating primer to create that luminous finish.
  • Keep your base light. Stay clear of full coverage foundations and opt for a tinted moisturiser, CC cream or BB cream. This will give you a little bit of coverage but will still allow your natural skin to shine through.
  • Yes, you are going for a natural “no makeup” look, but you may still want to hide dark circles or pesky blemishes …. Using a lightweight concealer will hide any imperfections you don’t want on show.
  • Use a cream bronzer and blush. Creamy products tend to blend well, helping you create that natural look. Using a damp beauty sponge will help create that radiant, healthy, “I’ve just got out of bed and I look like this” look.
  • To add dewiness to the cheeks, use a liquid or cream highlighter to the tops of your cheekbones. Remember less is more.
  • For the eyes, try using brown mascara unless you have very dark lashes. A light coating to the top and bottom lashes will help accentuate the eyes without going overboard.
  • Brows, brows, brows.  Out of control, bushy brows are not the one when you’re aiming for that subtle look. Use a brow gel to brush up your brows, creating a natural but full look.
  • Don’t forget about those luscious lips. Before you run out the door, give your lips a coat of a natural coloured, hydrating lip gloss. Not a fan of gloss? Opt for a nourishing tinted lip balm.

  1. How to Look Better on Zoom with Makeup

There’s no denying it.. laptop cameras can wash you out. And it’s never really a good look.

We’ve all been there. You’ve got that important Zoom meeting in 30 mins but don’t want to look as pale as Wednesday Adams. Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Here are some tips on how to achieve a subtle glow before that all-important video call.

  • Use an illuminating foundation to add a little glow to your skin and even out your skin tone.
  • Use a hydrating concealer that’s a few shades lighter than your normal go to shade. This will make your face appear brighter and the camera will love you for it.
  • Continuing that glowy look, add highlighter to the tops of your cheekbones. The camera will pick up that light and will make you glow.
  • Layer on that mascara. A generous lashing of mascara will help make your eyes appear bigger, giving them more definition.
  • Add a pop of colour to your cheeks with a bright, bold blush. Again, add a little more than you normally would as cameras tend to wash you out.
  • Define your lips with a lip liner, this adds definition and can make your lips appear fuller. The camera loves a bit of shine so finish with a hydrating, satin lipstick or a lip gloss and you’re good to go!

  1. How to Contour Your Nose

Did you know you can completely change the shape of your nose? With a little bit of nose contouring and highlighting in the right places you can get any nose you desire. Well, within reason!

If you want to make your nose look a certain way follow these easy steps:

  • To get that ultra, flawless look you need to prep the base. Some people can find their nose tends to get oily throughout the day, so we recommend using a mattifying primer.
  • Once you’ve primed your nose, apply your go-to foundation and then set with a setting powder.
  • Time to contour! If you want to make your nose look thinner, apply a concealer that’s two shades lighter than your natural skin tone either side of your nose, this will create a more slender looking nose. If you want to widen the look of your nose, use a darker shade. It’s important to go up from the nostrils and just along the bridge of your nose.
  • You can use a cream contour or powder, the most important thing is to start the contour at the front of the brow and work down to the very bottom of your nose.
  • If you want to try making your nose shorter, apply a slight stroke of bronzer in the center to take the emphasis away from the length.
  • For a longer looking nose, draw two lines from the brow bone down the sides of your nose. Then highlight the bridge of your nose all the way from top to bottom. Once you’ve done this, blend it all together and make sure there aren’t any harsh lines.

  1. How to Make your Makeup Look Smooth with Acne

If you have acne it can impact confidence and too often if you try to cover it with makeup, it can become cakey around your spots.

We’re here to help! Following the below makeup tips can help conceal your acne and give you a natural smooth base:

  • Make sure you moisturise adequately first as this will help support smooth application of your makeup.
  • Use a primer to hold your makeup on your skin.
  • Use a green concealer on top of around any spots. This should work against the redness.
  • Apply just a little bit of full coverage foundation with a makeup sponge.
  • If you need any more coverage, dab a bit of liquid concealer over the foundation.
  • Gently press a powder foundation onto the area.

When you have acne, it’s also crucial to ensure you adequately clean your face when you remove your makeup. For your cleansing to work well for your skin, you’ll need to get your makeup off with something that dissolves it easily. The last thing you want to do is to scrub hard at your skin and irritate your acne further.
